Molly's Moods

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to read my very first blog!

I would like to introduce you to Molly. Molly is an adorable, 10 year old Jack Russell but Molly can be a little stubborn! I know, I know surely that lovely lady above cannot be stubborn?

But Molly is very strong willed and when I first started walking Molly less than 5 weeks ago it was very difficult to get Molly to walk just a feet. Finally this week we made our break through, Molly walked just over 1.8km which is fantastic.

So how did Molly and I achieve this?
When it comes to training your dog, I believe you need to keep it simple and make it fun. It will take time, consistency and perseverance but I assure you that YOU definitely can teach an old dog new tricks. What I did was simple, ignore Molly's bad behaviours and praise and reward her good behaviours. It really is that simple, when Molly stopped walking I would turn my back/ not look at her and hold the lead tight. Eventually Molly would then start to walk and I would walk slowly ahead of her praising her as we go. If Molly walked continously for 5 minutes Molly would then get a treat. Molly and myself would repeat this process multiple times on our 30 minute walks together. But on Friday Molly walked almost 2km with just two stops, brilliant.

The Hard Part...
This did take a number of weeks to achieve and required a lot of prerseverance, repition and time. But it genuinely does work and it really is that simple, but if you and your furry friend can persevere then success will soon follow.
